Fibroids and Fertility

When fibroids matter for fertility and when they do not.

What fibroids are

Fibroids (leiomyomas) are non-cancerous growths of the uterine muscle. They are common and often cause no symptoms.

Do they affect fertility?

It depends on location, size, and number. Fibroids inside the uterine cavity or that distort it are more likely to affect fertility and pregnancy. Many fibroids do not require treatment for fertility.

Treatment when indicated

When treatment is indicated, options can include hysteroscopic removal for cavity-distorting fibroids or other approaches for larger fibroids. Your physician will explain the trade-offs specific to your situation.
