Understanding Your Fertility Timeline

The biological milestones every person with ovaries should know — and when to consider testing.

Fertility is a trend, not a cliff

Fertility gradually changes with age rather than dropping off suddenly. Egg quantity and quality both shift, and the pace differs among individuals.

When to test

Ovarian reserve testing gives you a snapshot today, not a countdown. Consider testing if you are 30+ and want a plan, if you have irregular cycles, if you have a family history of early menopause, or if you have had prior chemotherapy or ovarian surgery.

What testing does not do

Testing does not predict a specific timeline. It informs a plan. Use it as a data point, not a verdict.

When to see a specialist

General guidance: 12 months of trying if under 35, 6 months if 35–39, and sooner if 40+ or if a known risk factor exists. Come sooner if something worries you.
