Understanding the goal
Distance should not stand between you and experienced fertility care. Many of our patients live outside Los Angeles—across the country or internationally—and choose to travel for treatment because of Dr. Ghadir's specific expertise, a recommendation from a trusted source, or simply a desire for a second, unbiased perspective.
Our goal is to make the logistics as manageable as possible: minimizing unnecessary trips, coordinating with providers near you, and condensing your time in Los Angeles to what is clinically necessary, typically around the retrieval or transfer itself.
What we evaluate first
Before scheduling any travel, we start remotely so that your time in-office is used efficiently and purposefully.
- A telehealth consultation to review your history and goals
- Prior fertility records and testing, forwarded ahead of your visit
- Baseline labs and imaging, often completed at a lab near your home
- Identification of a local monitoring clinic for bloodwork and ultrasounds during stimulation
- A realistic timeline that accounts for your travel constraints, work, and support system
How the plan is built
Once we understand your situation, we build a cycle plan around two phases: the portion that can happen remotely, and the portion that requires you to be physically present in Los Angeles.
Remote monitoring and local partnerships
During ovarian stimulation, you will typically need bloodwork and ultrasound monitoring every one to three days. Rather than requiring you to fly back and forth, we coordinate with a monitoring clinic near your home that can perform these tests and send results directly to our team. This allows us to adjust your medication doses remotely and time your trip precisely around when it is actually needed.
Compressed visit and procedure logistics
Most patients plan to arrive in Los Angeles a few days before retrieval and stay through the procedure and initial recovery, with the full stimulation-to-retrieval window compressed to roughly 10 to 14 days. If you are pursuing a frozen embryo transfer, that trip can often be scheduled separately and requires a shorter stay, since transfer preparation is more predictable than stimulation. We are happy to recommend nearby hotels that are accustomed to fertility patients, some offering extended-stay rates.
Success factors and honest expectations
Traveling for care does not change the fundamentals of what predicts success—age, ovarian reserve, and embryo quality remain the primary drivers of outcomes, regardless of where treatment takes place. What travel logistics can affect is convenience, stress, and cost, so we plan carefully to reduce those burdens.
Occasionally, a stimulation cycle responds unpredictably and requires an extra monitoring visit or a short extension of your stay. We build some flexibility into your plan and communicate promptly if timing needs to shift, so you can adjust travel arrangements with as much notice as possible.
Cost, insurance, and timing
Traveling for care adds costs beyond treatment itself—flights, lodging, and time away from work or family—so we try to be transparent about the expected timeline early on. Local monitoring visits are typically billed by the local clinic performing them, separate from our practice's fees, and we can help you understand what to expect from each.
If your insurance plan includes fertility benefits, we can help clarify what may be covered locally versus in Los Angeles. Many out-of-town patients choose to schedule around predictable windows, such as a school break or a lighter work period, and we will work with you to align the medical timeline accordingly.
Emotional support and partner involvement
Traveling for fertility care can feel isolating, especially if you are navigating hotel stays and unfamiliar surroundings during an already emotional process. We encourage partners or a support person to travel with you when possible, particularly around retrieval or transfer.
Our team is available by phone and secure messaging throughout your stimulation cycle, even while you are being monitored locally, so you are never navigating decisions alone simply because you are not in the office in person.
Working with Dr. Ghadir
Dr. Ghadir has extensive experience treating out-of-town and international patients and structures his approach to make travel as efficient as possible without compromising care. He personally reviews all monitoring results sent from your local clinic and remains directly involved in every dosing decision, even remotely.
After your embryo transfer or once you are cleared to return home, we coordinate a handoff to a local OB for early pregnancy monitoring, ensuring continuity of care without requiring further long-distance travel.

Frequently asked
How many times will I need to travel to Los Angeles?
Many patients travel just once or twice: once for retrieval and, if not doing a fresh transfer, again later for a frozen embryo transfer. Baseline testing and stimulation monitoring are typically handled at a local clinic near your home, with results sent to our team. We design the plan to minimize travel while ensuring nothing critical is missed.
Can my local clinic really do all the monitoring?
Most reproductive endocrinology or general OB offices, and many general labs and imaging centers, can perform the bloodwork and ultrasounds needed during stimulation. We coordinate directly with your chosen local clinic, provide the specific monitoring protocol, and review all results remotely so your dosing decisions are made by our team even though the tests happen locally.
How long will I need to stay in Los Angeles for retrieval?
Most patients plan for roughly 10 to 14 days total, covering the final days of stimulation, trigger timing, retrieval, and brief recovery. Some patients with predictable responses may need slightly less time. We will give you a working estimate ahead of travel and update it as your monitoring results come in, since ovarian response can shift the exact schedule.
Do you recommend a fresh or frozen embryo transfer for traveling patients?
This depends on your individual situation, but many out-of-town patients choose to freeze all embryos and schedule the transfer as a separate, later trip. This can reduce the length of the retrieval visit and allows time for genetic testing results, if used, to return before transfer. Dr. Ghadir will discuss which approach fits your goals and travel constraints.
Can you recommend hotels near the office?
Yes. Our team can suggest nearby hotels that are accustomed to fertility patients, including some that offer extended-stay accommodations, kitchenettes, or corporate rates. Many are within a short drive of the office, which is helpful given that monitoring visits and procedures may require appointments on short notice during your stay.
What happens after I return home from my retrieval or transfer?
After retrieval, most patients return home within a few days once cleared, with instructions for follow-up. After a positive pregnancy test following transfer, we typically coordinate early monitoring with a local OB or your referring physician, so you are not required to keep flying back for routine prenatal visits once your pregnancy is established.
Is remote monitoring as accurate as being monitored in your office?
Yes, when performed by a qualified local clinic with standardized equipment. We provide clear protocols to the monitoring clinic and review every result personally. The main difference is convenience, not accuracy—your dosing decisions are still made by Dr. Ghadir's team based on the same data we would use if you were being monitored in our office.
What if my cycle needs an unplanned adjustment while I'm home?
This is common and part of why we monitor closely. If bloodwork or ultrasound results suggest a dose change or a shift in your trigger timing, we contact you directly and update your local clinic's monitoring schedule as needed. We build some flexibility into your travel plans in case your retrieval or transfer date needs to move by a day or two.
